WINTER HAS ARRIVED IN OKLAHOMA!!!!

Well we are getting hammered with winter weather and it could not have come at a worse time. It started last night with sleet and freezing rain and that is what we have been receiving all night long. Snow is supposed to start moving in this morning and snow ALL day. They are predicting accumulations of 6-12 inches. I doubt we get that much but mixed with the ice travel is almost impossible. We are all out of school today, but we probably won't be leaving for Harding today as planned. We may try to make a run for it tomorrow morning but who knows. I am bummed, but I sure do love the snow. I would like to be able to take the girls out if it ever starts snowing and stops sleeting.
Do you like the snow and cold weather?

Bedlam Update

Here are a few pictures from my trip to Bedlam. What a great game even though I was torn with the outcome. I am normally an OSU fan (I even wore orange to the game), but after living in Arkansas for 8 years I started rooting for any team from Oklahoma. So in the past I have been a fan of both. In fact, I usually root for whoever will be able to respresent the state on a bigger stage. So if OU has a chance to win the National Title (which they don't this year) I tend to root for them when they play OSU. This year the Big 12 South title was on the line for OU but I still rooted for OSU. It turned out to be a great game that came down the end. OU 27 - OSU 21 (OSU had a chance at the end to score for the win but could convert). The seats were great, especially since they were free. I was shocked by the face value of $250, I am glad they were free. We sat 19 rows up on the 20 yard line. There a few pictures above that I took with my cell phone that is why they aren't that great. Picture 1 is of the center of the field (wow right), picture 2 is of the infamous Pistol Pete mascot, and picture 3 is the endzone building which is none other than Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Bedlam...

I AM GOING TO THE BEDLAM GAME!!!!!

This Saturday at 1:30 I will be in attendance at Boone Pickens Stadium on the Oklahoma State University campus. I grew up in Oklahoma and have never attended the game but now I have tickets. For those of you that are not familiar with Bedlam, this is the game that pits the OSU Cowboys vs. OU Sooners. The battle for Oklahoma. Now for those of you in other states this may not be much because we are talking about Oklahoma, but for us this is the game.

I was lucky to get tickets, you see at OSU they set aside a certain number of tickets for Oklahoma coaches. You just have to call and see if they have any available during game week. So yesterday, being the first day to call, I began calling at 8:00 am and by 8:15 I had gotten through and received my complimentary tickets. I am excited.

I will let you know all about it on Saturday.

Time With Dad

I look forward to Thanksgiving break every year because that is time I get to spend quality time with my dad. Since I was a little kid, I enjoyed hunting. And since I was a little kid, I always hunted with my dad. This year is no different. This past Saturday, dad and I met at 5:15 am and headed to the woods. Although we didn't see anything all morning we still had time being together. In the afternoon, we both saw deer and we both missed on our shots. However, it was still a good time. Tomorrow morning we will meet again and hopefully have a little more success. Although it is great killing a big buck (I have never shot one as big as the picture), I just look forward to this time to spend with my dad.

What annual time do you look forward to spending with your parents?

Book Recommendations

For some reason, ever since I started teaching, I have started reading books during the summer. I am not a fan of reading but I have found a few authors that I really enjoy. Two summers ago, I ran across a Christian author named Ted Dekker. He writes futuristic books and mysteries. I had a friend mention to me one of his books called Black, it was part of a three part trilogy(Red and White are the other titles). I read them all and was hooked. Since that time I have read others by Dekker titled Three, Showdown and House (co-authored with Frank Peretti). If you are looking for books that are hard to put down then Dekker is the choice for you. Why do I share this with you, well it's because I just bought his most recent book titled Saint and I am looking forward to reading it even though it is not summer time yet.

Another author that you might enjoy, who also writes Christian fiction is Robert Whitlow. I ran across his books last summer just hanging out at a christian bookstore outlet in Branson. I would say that his books are similar to a John Grisham novel. He is a former lawyer who now writes lawyer books. His books include titles like Life Support, Life Everlasting, The Trial, The Sacrifice, Jimmy, The List, and Mountain Top (recently released).

Finally, for you men and fathers. I have read a few of the Every Man Series books. These are great books that deal with various topics that we, as men, don't want to talk about. They have even branched out into a few books for women. I have read Every Man's Battle (Sexual Integrity) and I plan to read these others that I own, Every Man, God's Man (Spiritual Integrity), Every Man's Marriage (Marital Intimacy), and Every Man's Challenge (Spiritual Growth). I even noticed last night that they have written books titled Preparing Your Son For Every Man's Battle and Preparing Your Daughter For Every Woman's Battle. Also for men, I have mentioned before the book More Than A Dad by Scot Anderson (highly recommended). I also bought a book last night by Ken R. Canfield, Ph.D. President of the National Center for Fathering. This book is titled The 7 Secrets of Effective Fathers - Becoming the Father Your Children Need. I will let you know if it is worth reading.

So there you go, no football update, so I needed something to post and after my visit to Mardel I got excited about reading again and I have a little time since football is over and baseball doesn't officially start playing until February.

What books would you recommend?

Week 10 - IT'S OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well week 10 came and went, now football season for the Bulldogs is over. Halellujah!!!!

If you recall about 3 weeks ago I wrapped up my post telling you to stay tuned for how, not if, but how we would lose our final three games. We had an overtime loss, a blow out, and then there was last night. What a fitting way to finish the season, 1-9.

Here's the recap. Bulldogs came out and played great defense, as always. The offense actually did a little too. Heading into the fourth quarter the Bulldogs lead 9-0. In fact with about 7:30 minutes left in the fourth we scored our first TD and lead 16-0. On our way to our second win of the season. Then something happened and the Ropers decided to start playing. The Ropers went on to score their first TD of the game and successfully executed the 2-point conversion, 16-8 Bulldogs. On our next possession we had a bad exchange witht he QB and Center and the Ropers recovered the fumble. A few plays later and a 2-point conversion added the score was tied 16-16 (Score tied within about 30 seconds). Our next possession would prove to be our last and it resulted in a punt. So the Ropers take over with about 4 minutes remaining and begin their drive to victory, however and interception returned for a TD put the Bulldogs ahead again 23-16. The Ropers took the ball again and drove down the field. They scored with about 8 seconds left 23-22. Surprisingly the Ropers line up for the field goal and it appears that overtime is in the future. Here's the good part, a poor snap, a scramble by the holder, and successful 2-point conversion pass puts the Ropers ahead and the victory, 24-22.

What a way to end the season. And in reality it shouldn't have been that close. Luckily for us the Roper's QB was suspended that day at school and so their second really good WR played QB. But, I guess it wasn't lucky enough.

I told you it would be exciting. Well, it's over, and I am on to Baseball. Don't worry once the season starts I will only update on a weekly basis not after every game. Thanks for tuning in to Bulldog football.
